Where should safety glass be used?
Safety glass is usually required in critical locations such as glass in and around doors and low level glazing in general. There are two types of safety glass: toughened glass and laminated glass (Pilkington Optilam™). Toughened glass is typically specified for its strength, safety and resistance to thermal fracture; laminated glass is often used for its safety, security and post-breakage characteristics. It is not uncommon to select a double glazing unit with a toughened glass outer pane and a laminated glass inner pane.
